Experiencing slow internet that causes you to be unproductive? Well, there is more to internet connection speed than just it’s bandwidth.

Latency can be an issue with all Internet connections and networks. Wired network connections tend to have the lowest latency, while wireless connections generally have higher latency.

CIOs are becoming concerned that networking and inter-process latency is affecting IT performance. As latency always manifests as a delay. For example, if you are having a Skype chat with your customers with high-latency Internet connection, you would be out of sync with each other. Hence, having you to pause in between sentences or end up talking over each other thanks to the delay.

Both bandwidth and latency depend on more than your Internet connection – they are affected by your network hardware, the remote server’s location and connection, and the Internet routers between your computer and the server.

In the graphs below are some default graphs that can be shown using NetGain System’s monitoring services.

For example, having to view this graph, you will get to see the different latency level at different time of the day. Also you get to choose which device you would like to compare it with.

Latency like this is normal. However, here is a graph that shows that the latency is high as it is irregular.
