Subscribers of UK Three were left without mobile data access as the service provider experienced a network outage. As a result, customers went to Twitter to broadcast their disappointment.

The number of people affected by the outage is as yet unclear, but several Three customers in the ITProPortal offices have reported trouble with using their data to get online.

At the time of writing, Three does not seem to have fixed the issue, and its Twitter account has been inundated with complaints from understandably dissatisfied customers.

This AM @ThreeUK rolled out their new 0G internet to a few thousand London customers. Thankfully the full roll-out isn’t for a few months.

I wish @ThreeUK would spend less time tweeting picture of cats and more time fixing our internet. #three#3g

UK Three’s twitter account was also busy replying to disappointed customers.

As it can be seen, dealing in downtime is no longer just the responsibility of the IT team, but other parts of the organisations have to be in full force to manage the downtime.

The outage was reported to have started at 6am and resolved at 1pm.

UK Three has yet to disclose the cause of the outage. However, from experience, when an outage occur, the IT team spend a majority of the time looking for the cause of the problem and the reminding session trying to solve to the problem.

NetGain Systems IT monitoring solutions, not only assists IT teams to identify the problem immediately, it also alerts the IT teams of potential problems which could result in serious downtime.

Most IT teams do not think of downtime until it actually occurs. When it occurs, more resources have to be put in place to manage the fallout, both from the technical and the non-technical teams.
